Chiropractic is a healing discipline firmly grounded in science. Although its main focus is the relationship between the skeleton (particularly the spine) and the nervous system that runs through it, chiropractic is concerned with the care of the entire body. Chiropractic focuses on addressing the source of your problem, not simply with treating symptoms.

Chiropractors use various diagnostic methods, which may include x-rays, to discover the state of your health, paying particular attention to your spine and bone structure. Spinal adjustments, or manipulation as it is also referred to, as well as other manual techniques are their primary methods of helping your body heal itself.

Naturopathic Medicine is a form of primary healthcare that focuses on disease prevention and optimization of health while addressing the root cause of illness. Naturopathic Doctors have a minimum of 8 years of post-secondary education and are trained in the medical sciences (anatomy, physiology, clinical diagnosis of disease, pharmacology, etc) as well as natural therapies (clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, lifestyle medicine, counselling, acupuncture, etc). Their comprehensive training allows them to provide integrative, holistic care for a wide range of conditions. Visits with a Naturopathic Doctor are much longer than with a family doctor, allowing patients to ask questions and learn more about their body and their health concerns. Some conditions that Naturopathic Doctors can help with include: digestion (IBS, IBD, chronic constipation, bloating, etc), anxiety and stress, insomnia, fertility and pregnancy care, hormonal concerns such as PCOS and endometriosis, skin conditions (acne, eczema, rosacea), weight management, fatigue/low energy, and more. Each patient receives an individualized treatment plan that is curated for their specific health goals and needs.

Dr. Emily graduated with her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine after completing a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She is a women’s health advocate and has a special focus in practice on hormonal concerns (PMS, PCOS, endometriosis, fertility/pregnancy/postpartum, menopause, etc) as well as skin conditions (acne, eczema, rosacea), gut health, and pediatrics. Emily loves educating her patients on the foundations of health – nutrition, movement, sleep, stress-management, and connection – and creating easy habits for patients to increase their longevity.

As the partner of a conventional medicine healthcare worker, Emily understands and respects the values of both conventional and naturopathic medicine and knows that they work best when in conjunction. Her passion lies in preventative medicine and she utilizes natural therapies such as clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, lifestyle counselling, nutraceuticals, and more in her practice.

Always eager to learn more to better serve her patients, she has amassed a number of continuing education courses and conferences in the fields of integrative dermatology, fertility, breastfeeding counselling, and more.

Outside of the clinic, Emily enjoys spending time with her fiancé and two rescue cats, visiting the farmer’s market and shopping local, decorating her cozy acreage home in Bayfield, and sharing all of the above on her Instagram (as well as health info!). You can find her at @doctor.emily.nd .
